Surah 91: Ash-Shams
الشمس
Ayah 1
By the sun and its brightness
وَٱلشَّمْسِ وَضُحَىٰهَا Washshamsi waduhaha — 🔊
Ayah 2
And [by] the moon when it follows it
وَٱلْقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَىٰهَا Walqamari itha talaha — 🔊
Ayah 3
And [by] the day when it displays it1
وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّىٰهَا Wannahari itha jallaha — 🔊
Ayah 4
And [by] the night when it covers [i.e., conceals] it
وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰهَا Wallayli itha yaghshaha — 🔊
Ayah 5
And [by] the sky and He who constructed it
وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَمَا بَنَىٰهَا Wassama-i wama banaha — 🔊
Ayah 6
And [by] the earth and He who spread it
وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا طَحَىٰهَا Wal-ardi wama tahaha — 🔊
Ayah 7
And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it1
وَنَفْسٍ وَمَا سَوَّىٰهَا Wanafsin wama sawwaha — 🔊
Ayah 8
And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness,
فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَىٰهَا Faalhamaha fujooraha wataqwaha — 🔊
Ayah 9
He has succeeded who purifies it,
قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن زَكَّىٰهَا Qad aflaha man zakkaha — 🔊
Ayah 10
And he has failed who instills it [with corruption].
وَقَدْ خَابَ مَن دَسَّىٰهَا Waqad khaba man dassaha — 🔊
Ayah 11
Thamūd denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression,
كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوَىٰهَآ Kaththabat thamoodu bitaghwaha — 🔊
Ayah 12
When the most wretched of them was sent forth
إِذِ ٱنۢبَعَثَ أَشْقَىٰهَا Ithi inbaAAatha ashqaha — 🔊
Ayah 13
And the messenger of Allāh [i.e., Ṣāliḥ] said to them, “[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allāh or [prevent her from] her drink.”
فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ نَاقَةَ ٱللَّهِ وَسُقْيَـٰهَا Faqala lahum rasoolu Allahi naqataAllahi wasuqyaha — 🔊
Ayah 14
But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them].
فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُم بِذَنۢبِهِمْ فَسَوَّىٰهَا Fakaththaboohu faAAaqaroohafadamdama AAalayhim rabbuhum bithanbihim fasawwaha — 🔊
Ayah 15
And He does not fear the consequence thereof
وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبَـٰهَا Wala yakhafu AAuqbaha — 🔊
