Surah 56: Al-Waqi’ah

الواقعة

Ayah 1

When the Occurrence occurs,

إِذَا وَقَعَتِ ٱلْوَاقِعَةُ Itha waqaAAati alwaqiAAat — 🔊

Ayah 2

There is, at its occurrence, no denial.

لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ Laysa liwaqAAatiha kathiba — 🔊

Ayah 3

It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]

خَافِضَةٌ رَّافِعَةٌ Khafidatun rafiAAa — 🔊

Ayah 4

When the earth is shaken with convulsion

إِذَا رُجَّتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ رَجًّا Itha rujjati al-ardu rajja — 🔊

Ayah 5

And the mountains are broken down, crumbling

وَبُسَّتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ بَسًّا Wabussati aljibalu bassa — 🔊

Ayah 6

And become dust dispersing,

فَكَانَتْ هَبَآءً مُّنۢبَثًّا Fakanat habaan munbaththa — 🔊

Ayah 7

And you become [of] three kinds:

وَكُنتُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا ثَلَـٰثَةً Wakuntum azwajan thalatha — 🔊

Ayah 8

Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right?1

فَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ Faas-habu almaymanati maas-habu almaymanat — 🔊

Ayah 9

And the companions of the left - what are companions of the left?1

وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ Waas-habu almash-amati maas-habu almash-amat — 🔊

Ayah 10

And the forerunners, the forerunners -

وَٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ ٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ Wassabiqoona assabiqoon — 🔊

Ayah 11

Those are the ones brought near [to Allāh]

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ Ola-ika almuqarraboon — 🔊

Ayah 12

In the Gardens of Pleasure,

فِى جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ Fee jannati annaAAeem — 🔊

Ayah 13

A [large] company of the former peoples

ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ Thullatun mina al-awwaleen — 🔊

Ayah 14

And a few of the later peoples,

وَقَلِيلٌ مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ Waqaleelun mina al-akhireena — 🔊

Ayah 15

On thrones woven [with ornament],

عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مَّوْضُونَةٍ AAala sururin mawdoona — 🔊

Ayah 16

Reclining on them, facing each other.

مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَيْهَا مُتَقَـٰبِلِينَ Muttaki-eena AAalayha mutaqabileen — 🔊

Ayah 17

There will circulate among them young boys made eternal.

يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَٰنٌ مُّخَلَّدُونَ Yatoofu AAalayhim wildanunmukhalladoon — 🔊

Ayah 18

With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring -

بِأَكْوَابٍ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأْسٍ مِّن مَّعِينٍ Bi-akwabin waabareeqa waka/sinmin maAAeen — 🔊

Ayah 19

No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated -

لَّا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنْهَا وَلَا يُنزِفُونَ La yusaddaAAoona AAanhawala yunzifoon — 🔊

Ayah 20

And fruit of what they select

وَفَـٰكِهَةٍ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ Wafakihatin mimmayatakhayyaroon — 🔊

Ayah 21

And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire.

وَلَحْمِ طَيْرٍ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ Walahmi tayrin mimmayashtahoon — 🔊

Ayah 22

And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes,

وَحُورٌ عِينٌ Wahoorun AAeen — 🔊

Ayah 23

The likenesses of pearls well-protected,

كَأَمْثَـٰلِ ٱللُّؤْلُؤِ ٱلْمَكْنُونِ Kaamthali allu/lui almaknoon — 🔊

Ayah 24

As reward for what they used to do.

جَزَآءًۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ Jazaan bima kanooyaAAmaloon — 🔊

Ayah 25

They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin -

لَا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا تَأْثِيمًا La yasmaAAoona feeha laghwanwala ta/theema — 🔊

Ayah 26

Only a saying [of] peace, peace.

إِلَّا قِيلًا سَلَـٰمًا سَلَـٰمًا Illa qeelan salaman salama — 🔊

Ayah 27

The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right?

وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْيَمِينِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْيَمِينِ Waas-habu alyameeni maas-habu alyameen — 🔊

Ayah 28

[They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed.

فِى سِدْرٍ مَّخْضُودٍ Fee sidrin makhdood — 🔊

Ayah 29

And [banana] trees layered [with fruit].

وَطَلْحٍ مَّنضُودٍ Watalhin mandood — 🔊

Ayah 30

And shade extended.

وَظِلٍّ مَّمْدُودٍ Wathillin mamdood — 🔊

Ayah 31

And water poured out

وَمَآءٍ مَّسْكُوبٍ Wama-in maskoob — 🔊

Ayah 32

And fruit, abundant [and varied],

وَفَـٰكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ Wafakihatin katheera — 🔊

Ayah 33

Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden,

لَّا مَقْطُوعَةٍ وَلَا مَمْنُوعَةٍ La maqtooAAatin walamamnooAAa — 🔊

Ayah 34

And [upon] beds raised high.

وَفُرُشٍ مَّرْفُوعَةٍ Wafurushin marfooAAa — 🔊

Ayah 35

Indeed, We have produced them [i.e., the women of Paradise] in a [new] creation

إِنَّآ أَنشَأْنَـٰهُنَّ إِنشَآءً Inna ansha/nahunna inshaa — 🔊

Ayah 36

And made them virgins,

فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُنَّ أَبْكَارًا FajaAAalnahunna abkara — 🔊

Ayah 37

Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age,

عُرُبًا أَتْرَابًا AAuruban atraba — 🔊

Ayah 38

For the companions of the right [who are]

لِّأَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ Li-as-habi alyameen — 🔊

Ayah 39

A company of the former peoples

ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ Thullatun mina al-awwaleen — 🔊

Ayah 40

And a company of the later peoples.

وَثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ Wathullatun mina al-akhireen — 🔊

Ayah 41

And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left?

وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ Waas-habu ashshimalima as-habu ashshimal — 🔊

Ayah 42

[They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water

فِى سَمُومٍ وَحَمِيمٍ Fee samoomin wahameem — 🔊

Ayah 43

And a shade of black smoke,

وَظِلٍّ مِّن يَحْمُومٍ Wathillin min yahmoom — 🔊

Ayah 44

Neither cool nor beneficial.

لَّا بَارِدٍ وَلَا كَرِيمٍ La baridin wala kareem — 🔊

Ayah 45

Indeed they were, before that, indulging in affluence,

إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَ Innahum kanoo qabla thalikamutrafeen — 🔊

Ayah 46

And they used to persist in the great violation

وَكَانُوا۟ يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى ٱلْحِنثِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ Wakanoo yusirroona AAalaalhinthi alAAatheem — 🔊

Ayah 47

And they used to say, “When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected?

وَكَانُوا۟ يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ Wakanoo yaqooloona a-itha mitnawakunna turaban waAAithamana-inna lamabAAoothoon — 🔊

Ayah 48

And our forefathers [as well]?”

أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ Awa abaona al-awwaloon — 🔊

Ayah 49

Say, [O Muḥammad], “Indeed, the former and later peoples

قُلْ إِنَّ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ وَٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ Qul inna al-awwaleena wal-akhireen — 🔊

Ayah 50

Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day.”

لَمَجْمُوعُونَ إِلَىٰ مِيقَـٰتِ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُومٍ LamajmooAAoona ila meeqatiyawmin maAAloom — 🔊

Ayah 51

Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers,

ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ أَيُّهَا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ ٱلْمُكَذِّبُونَ Thumma innakum ayyuha addalloonaalmukaththiboon — 🔊

Ayah 52

Will be eating from trees of zaqqūm

لَـَٔاكِلُونَ مِن شَجَرٍ مِّن زَقُّومٍ Laakiloona min shajarin min zaqqoom — 🔊

Ayah 53

And filling with it your bellies

فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنْهَا ٱلْبُطُونَ Famali-oona minha albutoon — 🔊

Ayah 54

And drinking on top of it from scalding water.

فَشَـٰرِبُونَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلْحَمِيمِ Fashariboona AAalayhi mina alhameem — 🔊

Ayah 55

And will drink as the drinking of thirsty camels.

فَشَـٰرِبُونَ شُرْبَ ٱلْهِيمِ Fashariboona shurba alheem — 🔊

Ayah 56

That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense.

هَـٰذَا نُزُلُهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلدِّينِ Hatha nuzuluhum yawma addeen — 🔊

Ayah 57

We have created you, so why do you not believe?

نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ فَلَوْلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ Nahnu khalaqnakum falawlatusaddiqoon — 🔊

Ayah 58

Have you seen that which you emit?1

أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تُمْنُونَ Afaraaytum ma tumnoon — 🔊

Ayah 59

Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator?

ءَأَنتُمْ تَخْلُقُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْخَـٰلِقُونَ Aantum takhluqoonahu am nahnu alkhaliqoon — 🔊

Ayah 60

We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone

نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَيْنَكُمُ ٱلْمَوْتَ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ Nahnu qaddarna baynakumualmawta wama nahnu bimasbooqeen — 🔊

Ayah 61

In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know

عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ أَمْثَـٰلَكُمْ وَنُنشِئَكُمْ فِى مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ AAala an nubaddila amthalakumwanunshi-akum fee ma la taAAlamoon — 🔊

Ayah 62

And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember?

وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ ٱلنَّشْأَةَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ فَلَوْلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ Walaqad AAalimtumu annash-ata al-oolafalawla tathakkaroon — 🔊

Ayah 63

And have you seen that [seed] which you sow?

أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تَحْرُثُونَ Afaraaytum ma tahruthoon — 🔊

Ayah 64

Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower?

ءَأَنتُمْ تَزْرَعُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلزَّٰرِعُونَ Aantum tazraAAoonahu am nahnu azzariAAoon — 🔊

Ayah 65

If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder

لَوْ نَشَآءُ لَجَعَلْنَـٰهُ حُطَـٰمًا فَظَلْتُمْ تَفَكَّهُونَ Law nashao lajaAAalnahu hutamanfathaltum tafakkahoon — 🔊

Ayah 66

[Saying], “Indeed, we are [now] in debt;

إِنَّا لَمُغْرَمُونَ Inna lamughramoon — 🔊

Ayah 67

Rather, we have been deprived.”

بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ Bal nahnu mahroomoon — 🔊

Ayah 68

And have you seen the water that you drink?

أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱلْمَآءَ ٱلَّذِى تَشْرَبُونَ Afaraaytumu almaa allatheetashraboon — 🔊

Ayah 69

Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down?

ءَأَنتُمْ أَنزَلْتُمُوهُ مِنَ ٱلْمُزْنِ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنزِلُونَ Aantum anzaltumoohu mina almuzni am nahnualmunziloon — 🔊

Ayah 70

If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful?

لَوْ نَشَآءُ جَعَلْنَـٰهُ أُجَاجًا فَلَوْلَا تَشْكُرُونَ Law nashao jaAAalnahu ojajanfalawla tashkuroon — 🔊

Ayah 71

And have you seen the fire that you ignite?

أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱلنَّارَ ٱلَّتِى تُورُونَ Afaraaytumu annara allateetooroon — 🔊

Ayah 72

Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer?

ءَأَنتُمْ أَنشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَآ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنشِـُٔونَ Aantum ansha/tum shajarataha am nahnualmunshi-oon — 🔊

Ayah 73

We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers

نَحْنُ جَعَلْنَـٰهَا تَذْكِرَةً وَمَتَـٰعًا لِّلْمُقْوِينَ Nahnu jaAAalnaha tathkiratanwamataAAan lilmuqween — 🔊

Ayah 74

So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great.

فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ Fasabbih bismi rabbika alAAatheem — 🔊

Ayah 75

Then I swear by the setting of the stars

۞ فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَٰقِعِ ٱلنُّجُومِ Fala oqsimu bimawaqiAAi annujoom — 🔊

Ayah 76

And indeed, it is an oath - if you could know - [most] great.

وَإِنَّهُۥ لَقَسَمٌ لَّوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ Wa-innahu laqasamun law taAAlamoona AAatheem — 🔊

Ayah 77

Indeed, it is a noble Qur’ān.

إِنَّهُۥ لَقُرْءَانٌ كَرِيمٌ Innahu laqur-anun kareem — 🔊

Ayah 78

In a Register well-protected;1.

فِى كِتَـٰبٍ مَّكْنُونٍ Fee kitabin maknoon — 🔊

Ayah 79

None touch it except the purified [i.e., the angels].

لَّا يَمَسُّهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلْمُطَهَّرُونَ La yamassuhu illa almutahharoon — 🔊

Ayah 80

[It is] a revelation from the Lord of the worlds.

تَنزِيلٌ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ Tanzeelun min rabbi alAAalameen — 🔊

Ayah 81

Then is it to this statement that you are indifferent

أَفَبِهَـٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ أَنتُم مُّدْهِنُونَ Afabihatha alhadeethi antummudhinoon — 🔊

Ayah 82

And make [the thanks for] your provision that you deny [the Provider]?

وَتَجْعَلُونَ رِزْقَكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ تُكَذِّبُونَ WatajAAaloona rizqakum annakum tukaththiboon — 🔊

Ayah 83

Then why, when it [i.e., the soul at death] reaches the throat

فَلَوْلَآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلْحُلْقُومَ Falawla itha balaghati alhulqoom — 🔊

Ayah 84

And you are at that time looking on -

وَأَنتُمْ حِينَئِذٍ تَنظُرُونَ Waantum heena-ithin tanthuroona — 🔊

Ayah 85

And We [i.e., Our angels] are nearer to him than you, but you do not see -

وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنكُمْ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تُبْصِرُونَ Wanahnu aqrabu ilayhi minkum walakinla tubsiroon — 🔊

Ayah 86

Then why do you not, if you are not to be recompensed,

فَلَوْلَآ إِن كُنتُمْ غَيْرَ مَدِينِينَ Falawla in kuntum ghayra madeeneen — 🔊

Ayah 87

Bring it back if you should be truthful?

تَرْجِعُونَهَآ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ TarjiAAoonaha in kuntum sadiqeen — 🔊

Ayah 88

And if he [i.e., the deceased] was of those brought near [to Allāh],

فَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ Faamma in kana minaalmuqarrabeen — 🔊

Ayah 89

Then [for him is] rest and bounty and a garden of pleasure.

فَرَوْحٌ وَرَيْحَانٌ وَجَنَّتُ نَعِيمٍ Farawhun warayhanun wajannatunaAAeem — 🔊

Ayah 90

And if he was of the companions of the right,

وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ Waamma in kana min as-habialyameen — 🔊

Ayah 91

Then [the angels will say], “Peace for you; [you are] from the companions of the right.”

فَسَلَـٰمٌ لَّكَ مِنْ أَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ Fasalamun laka min as-habialyameen — 🔊

Ayah 92

But if he was of the deniers [who were] astray,

وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ Waamma in kana mina almukaththibeenaaddalleen — 🔊

Ayah 93

Then [for him is] accommodation of scalding water

فَنُزُلٌ مِّنْ حَمِيمٍ Fanuzulun min hameem — 🔊

Ayah 94

And burning in Hellfire.

وَتَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ Watasliyatu jaheem — 🔊

Ayah 95

Indeed, this is the true certainty,

إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ ٱلْيَقِينِ Inna hatha lahuwa haqqualyaqeen — 🔊

Ayah 96
