Surah 15: Al-Hijr
الحجر
Ayah 1
Alif, Lām, Rā These are the verses of the Book and a clear Qur’ān [i.e., recitation].
الٓر ۚ تِلْكَ ءَايَـٰتُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ وَقُرْءَانٍ مُّبِينٍ Alif-lam-ra tilka ayatualkitabi waqur-anin mubeen — 🔊
Ayah 2
Perhaps those who disbelieve will wish that they had been Muslims.
رُّبَمَا يَوَدُّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَوْ كَانُوا۟ مُسْلِمِينَ Rubama yawaddu allatheenakafaroo law kanoo muslimeen — 🔊
Ayah 3
Let them eat and enjoy themselves and be diverted by [false] hope, for they are going to know.
ذَرْهُمْ يَأْكُلُوا۟ وَيَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ وَيُلْهِهِمُ ٱلْأَمَلُ ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ Tharhum ya/kuloo wayatamattaAAoowayulhihimu al-amalu fasawfa yaAAlamoon — 🔊
Ayah 4
And We did not destroy any city but that for it was a known decree.
وَمَآ أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَرْيَةٍ إِلَّا وَلَهَا كِتَابٌ مَّعْلُومٌ Wama ahlakna min qaryatin illawalaha kitabun maAAloom — 🔊
Ayah 5
No nation will precede its term, nor will they remain thereafter.
مَّا تَسْبِقُ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا يَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَ Ma tasbiqu min ommatin ajalahawama yasta/khiroon — 🔊
Ayah 6
And they say, “O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad
وَقَالُوا۟ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِى نُزِّلَ عَلَيْهِ ٱلذِّكْرُ إِنَّكَ لَمَجْنُونٌ Waqaloo ya ayyuha allatheenuzzila AAalayhi aththikru innaka lamajnoon — 🔊
Ayah 7
Why do you not bring us the angels, if you should be among the truthful?”
لَّوْ مَا تَأْتِينَا بِٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ Law ma ta/teena bilmala-ikatiin kunta mina assadiqeen — 🔊
Ayah 8
We do not send down the angels except with truth;1 and they [i.e., the disbelievers] would not then be reprieved.
مَا نُنَزِّلُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ وَمَا كَانُوٓا۟ إِذًا مُّنظَرِينَ Ma nunazzilu almala-ikata illabilhaqqi wama kanoo ithan munthareen — 🔊
Ayah 9
Indeed, it is We who sent down the message [i.e., the Qur’ān], and indeed, We will be its guardian.
إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا ٱلذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُۥ لَحَـٰفِظُونَ Inna nahnu nazzalna aththikrawa-inna lahu lahafithoon — 🔊
Ayah 10
And We had certainly sent [messengers] before you, [O Muḥammad], among the sects of the former peoples.
وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ فِى شِيَعِ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ Walaqad arsalna min qablika feeshiyaAAi al-awwaleen — 🔊
Ayah 11
And no messenger would come to them except that they ridiculed him.
وَمَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ Wama ya/teehim min rasoolin illakanoo bihi yastahzi-oon — 🔊
Ayah 12
Thus do We insert it [i.e., denial] into the hearts of the criminals.
كَذَٰلِكَ نَسْلُكُهُۥ فِى قُلُوبِ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ Kathalika naslukuhu fee quloobialmujrimeen — 🔊
Ayah 13
They will not believe in it, while there has already occurred the precedent of the former peoples.
لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِۦ ۖ وَقَدْ خَلَتْ سُنَّةُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ La yu/minoona bihi waqad khalatsunnatu al-awwaleen — 🔊
Ayah 14
And [even] if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued therein to ascend,
وَلَوْ فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِم بَابًا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَظَلُّوا۟ فِيهِ يَعْرُجُونَ Walaw fatahna AAalayhim babanmina assama-i fathalloo feehiyaAArujoon — 🔊
Ayah 15
They would say, “Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic.”
لَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّمَا سُكِّرَتْ أَبْصَـٰرُنَا بَلْ نَحْنُ قَوْمٌ مَّسْحُورُونَ Laqaloo innama sukkirat absarunabal nahnu qawmun mashooroon — 🔊
Ayah 16
And We have placed within the heaven great stars and have beautified it for the observers.
وَلَقَدْ جَعَلْنَا فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ بُرُوجًا وَزَيَّنَّـٰهَا لِلنَّـٰظِرِينَ Walaqad jaAAalna fee assama-iburoojan wazayyannaha linnathireen — 🔊
Ayah 17
And We have protected it from every devil expelled [from the mercy of Allāh]
وَحَفِظْنَـٰهَا مِن كُلِّ شَيْطَـٰنٍ رَّجِيمٍ Wahafithnahamin kulli shaytanin rajeem — 🔊
Ayah 18
Except one who steals a hearing and is pursued by a clear burning flame.
إِلَّا مَنِ ٱسْتَرَقَ ٱلسَّمْعَ فَأَتْبَعَهُۥ شِهَابٌ مُّبِينٌ Illa mani istaraqa assamAAafaatbaAAahu shihabun mubeen — 🔊
Ayah 19
And the earth - We have spread it and cast therein firmly set mountains and caused to grow therein [something] of every well-balanced thing.
وَٱلْأَرْضَ مَدَدْنَـٰهَا وَأَلْقَيْنَا فِيهَا رَوَٰسِىَ وَأَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ شَىْءٍ مَّوْزُونٍ Wal-arda madadnahawaalqayna feeha rawasiya waanbatnafeeha min kulli shay-in mawzoon — 🔊
Ayah 20
And We have made for you therein means of living and [for] those for whom you are not providers
وَجَعَلْنَا لَكُمْ فِيهَا مَعَـٰيِشَ وَمَن لَّسْتُمْ لَهُۥ بِرَٰزِقِينَ WajaAAalna lakum feeha maAAayishawaman lastum lahu biraziqeen — 🔊
Ayah 21
And there is not a thing but that with Us are its depositories, and We do not send it down except according to a known [i.e., specified] measure.
وَإِن مِّن شَىْءٍ إِلَّا عِندَنَا خَزَآئِنُهُۥ وَمَا نُنَزِّلُهُۥٓ إِلَّا بِقَدَرٍ مَّعْلُومٍ Wa-in min shay-in illa AAindanakhaza-inuhu wama nunazziluhu illa biqadarinmaAAloom — 🔊
Ayah 22
And We have sent the fertilizing winds and sent down water from the sky and given you drink from it. And you are not its retainers.
وَأَرْسَلْنَا ٱلرِّيَـٰحَ لَوَٰقِحَ فَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءً فَأَسْقَيْنَـٰكُمُوهُ وَمَآ أَنتُمْ لَهُۥ بِخَـٰزِنِينَ Waarsalna arriyaha lawaqihafaanzalna mina assama-i maanfaasqaynakumoohu wama antum lahu bikhazineen — 🔊
Ayah 23
And indeed, it is We who give life and cause death, and We are the Inheritor
وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ نُحْىِۦ وَنُمِيتُ وَنَحْنُ ٱلْوَٰرِثُونَ Wa-inna lanahnu nuhyeewanumeetu wanahnu alwarithoon — 🔊
Ayah 24
And We have already known the preceding [generations] among you, and We have already known the later [ones to come].
وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا ٱلْمُسْتَقْدِمِينَ مِنكُمْ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا ٱلْمُسْتَـْٔخِرِينَ Walaqad AAalimna almustaqdimeenaminkum walaqad AAalimna almusta/khireen — 🔊
Ayah 25
And indeed, your Lord will gather them; indeed, He is Wise and Knowing.
وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ يَحْشُرُهُمْ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ حَكِيمٌ عَلِيمٌ Wa-inna rabbaka huwa yahshuruhuminnahu hakeemun AAaleem — 🔊
Ayah 26
And We did certainly create man out of clay from an altered black mud.
وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ مِن صَلْصَـٰلٍ مِّنْ حَمَإٍ مَّسْنُونٍ Walaqad khalaqna al-insana minsalsalin min hama-in masnoon — 🔊
Ayah 27
And the jinn We created before from scorching fire.
وَٱلْجَآنَّ خَلَقْنَـٰهُ مِن قَبْلُ مِن نَّارِ ٱلسَّمُومِ Waljanna khalaqnahumin qablu min nari assamoom — 🔊
Ayah 28
And [mention, O Muḥammad], when your Lord said to the angels, “I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud.
وَإِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ إِنِّى خَـٰلِقٌۢ بَشَرًا مِّن صَلْصَـٰلٍ مِّنْ حَمَإٍ مَّسْنُونٍ Wa-ith qala rabbuka lilmala-ikatiinnee khaliqun basharan min salsalin min hama-inmasnoon — 🔊
Ayah 29
And when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul then fall down to him in prostration.”
فَإِذَا سَوَّيْتُهُۥ وَنَفَخْتُ فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِى فَقَعُوا۟ لَهُۥ سَـٰجِدِينَ Fa-itha sawwaytuhu wanafakhtu feehimin roohee faqaAAoo lahu sajideen — 🔊
Ayah 30
So the angels prostrated - all of them entirely,
فَسَجَدَ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ كُلُّهُمْ أَجْمَعُونَ Fasajada almala-ikatu kulluhumajmaAAoon — 🔊
Ayah 31
Except Iblees;1 he refused to be with those who prostrated.
إِلَّآ إِبْلِيسَ أَبَىٰٓ أَن يَكُونَ مَعَ ٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَ Illa ibleesa aba an yakoonamaAAa assajideen — 🔊
Ayah 32
[Allāh] said, “O Iblees, what is [the matter] with you that you are not with those who prostrate?”
قَالَ يَـٰٓإِبْلِيسُ مَا لَكَ أَلَّا تَكُونَ مَعَ ٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَ Qala ya ibleesu ma lakaalla takoona maAAa assajideen — 🔊
Ayah 33
He said, “Never would I prostrate to a human whom You created out of clay from an altered black mud.”
قَالَ لَمْ أَكُن لِّأَسْجُدَ لِبَشَرٍ خَلَقْتَهُۥ مِن صَلْصَـٰلٍ مِّنْ حَمَإٍ مَّسْنُونٍ Qala lam akun li-asjuda libasharinkhalaqtahu min salsalin min hama-in masnoon — 🔊
Ayah 34
[Allāh] said, “Then depart from it for indeed, you are expelled.
قَالَ فَٱخْرُجْ مِنْهَا فَإِنَّكَ رَجِيمٌ Qala fakhruj minhafa-innaka rajeem — 🔊
Ayah 35
And indeed, upon you is the curse until the Day of Recompense.”
وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكَ ٱللَّعْنَةَ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ Wa-inna AAalayka allaAAnata ila yawmiaddeen — 🔊
Ayah 36
He said, “My Lord, then reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected.”
قَالَ رَبِّ فَأَنظِرْنِىٓ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ Qala rabbi faanthirneeila yawmi yubAAathoon — 🔊
Ayah 37
[Allāh] said, “So indeed, you are of those reprieved
قَالَ فَإِنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلْمُنظَرِينَ Qala fa-innaka mina almunthareen — 🔊
Ayah 38
Until the Day of the time well-known.”
إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْوَقْتِ ٱلْمَعْلُومِ Ila yawmi alwaqti almaAAloom — 🔊
Ayah 39
[Iblees] said, “My Lord, because You have put me in error, I will surely make [disobedience] attractive to them [i.e., mankind] on earth, and I will mislead them all
قَالَ رَبِّ بِمَآ أَغْوَيْتَنِى لَأُزَيِّنَنَّ لَهُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ Qala rabbi bima aghwaytaneelaozayyinanna lahum fee al-ardi walaoghwiyannahumajmaAAeen — 🔊
Ayah 40
Except, among them, Your chosen servants.”
إِلَّا عِبَادَكَ مِنْهُمُ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ Illa AAibadaka minhumualmukhlaseen — 🔊
Ayah 41
[Allāh] said, “This is a path [of return] to Me [that is] straight.
قَالَ هَـٰذَا صِرَٰطٌ عَلَىَّ مُسْتَقِيمٌ Qala hatha siratunAAalayya mustaqeem — 🔊
Ayah 42
Indeed, My servants - no authority will you have over them, except those who follow you of the deviators.
إِنَّ عِبَادِى لَيْسَ لَكَ عَلَيْهِمْ سُلْطَـٰنٌ إِلَّا مَنِ ٱتَّبَعَكَ مِنَ ٱلْغَاوِينَ Inna AAibadee laysa laka AAalayhimsultanun illa mani ittabaAAaka mina alghaween — 🔊
Ayah 43
And indeed, Hell is the promised place for them all.
وَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمَوْعِدُهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ Wa-inna jahannama lamawAAiduhum ajmaAAeen — 🔊
Ayah 44
It has seven gates; for every gate is of them [i.e., Satan’s followers] a portion designated.”
لَهَا سَبْعَةُ أَبْوَٰبٍ لِّكُلِّ بَابٍ مِّنْهُمْ جُزْءٌ مَّقْسُومٌ Laha sabAAatu abwabin likullibabin minhum juz-on maqsoom — 🔊
Ayah 45
Indeed, the righteous will be within gardens and springs,
إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ Inna almuttaqeena fee jannatinwaAAuyoon — 🔊
Ayah 46
[Having been told], “Enter it in peace, safe [and secure].”
ٱدْخُلُوهَا بِسَلَـٰمٍ ءَامِنِينَ Odkhulooha bisalamin amineen — 🔊
Ayah 47
And We will remove whatever is in their breasts of resentment [so they will be] brothers, on thrones facing each other.
وَنَزَعْنَا مَا فِى صُدُورِهِم مِّنْ غِلٍّ إِخْوَٰنًا عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مُّتَقَـٰبِلِينَ WanazaAAna ma fee sudoorihimmin ghillin ikhwanan AAala sururin mutaqabileen — 🔊
Ayah 48
No fatigue will touch them therein, nor from it will they [ever] be removed.
لَا يَمَسُّهُمْ فِيهَا نَصَبٌ وَمَا هُم مِّنْهَا بِمُخْرَجِينَ La yamassuhum feeha nasabunwama hum minha bimukhrajeen — 🔊
Ayah 49
[O Muḥammad], inform My servants that it is I who am the Forgiving, the Merciful,
۞ نَبِّئْ عِبَادِىٓ أَنِّىٓ أَنَا ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ Nabbi/ AAibadee annee anaalghafooru arraheem — 🔊
Ayah 50
And that it is My punishment which is the painful punishment.
وَأَنَّ عَذَابِى هُوَ ٱلْعَذَابُ ٱلْأَلِيمُ Waanna AAathabee huwa alAAathabual-aleem — 🔊
Ayah 51
And inform them about the guests of Abraham,
وَنَبِّئْهُمْ عَن ضَيْفِ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ Wanabbi/hum AAan dayfi ibraheem — 🔊
Ayah 52
When they entered upon him and said, “Peace.” [Abraham] said, “Indeed, we are fearful [i.e., apprehensive] of you.”
إِذْ دَخَلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالُوا۟ سَلَـٰمًا قَالَ إِنَّا مِنكُمْ وَجِلُونَ Ith dakhaloo AAalayhi faqaloosalaman qala inna minkum wajiloon — 🔊
Ayah 53
[The angels] said, “Fear not. Indeed, we give you good tidings of a learned boy.”
قَالُوا۟ لَا تَوْجَلْ إِنَّا نُبَشِّرُكَ بِغُلَـٰمٍ عَلِيمٍ Qaloo la tawjal innanubashshiruka bighulamin AAaleem — 🔊
Ayah 54
He said, “Have you given me good tidings although old age has come upon me? Then of what [wonder] do you inform?”
قَالَ أَبَشَّرْتُمُونِى عَلَىٰٓ أَن مَّسَّنِىَ ٱلْكِبَرُ فَبِمَ تُبَشِّرُونَ Qala abashshartumoonee AAalaan massaniya alkibaru fabima tubashshiroon — 🔊
Ayah 55
They said, “We have given you good tidings in truth, so do not be of the despairing.”
قَالُوا۟ بَشَّرْنَـٰكَ بِٱلْحَقِّ فَلَا تَكُن مِّنَ ٱلْقَـٰنِطِينَ Qaloo bashsharnaka bilhaqqifala takun mina alqaniteen — 🔊
Ayah 56
He said, “And who despairs of the mercy of his Lord except for those astray?”
قَالَ وَمَن يَقْنَطُ مِن رَّحْمَةِ رَبِّهِۦٓ إِلَّا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ Qala waman yaqnatu min rahmatirabbihi illa addalloon — 🔊
Ayah 57
[Abraham] said, “Then what is your business [here], O messengers?”
قَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكُمْ أَيُّهَا ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ Qala fama khatbukumayyuha almursaloon — 🔊
Ayah 58
They said, “Indeed, we have been sent to a people of criminals,
قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّآ أُرْسِلْنَآ إِلَىٰ قَوْمٍ مُّجْرِمِينَ Qaloo inna orsilna ilaqawmin mujrimeen — 🔊
Ayah 59
Except the family of Lot; indeed, we will save them all
إِلَّآ ءَالَ لُوطٍ إِنَّا لَمُنَجُّوهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ Illa ala lootin innalamunajjoohum ajmaAAeen — 🔊
Ayah 60
Except his wife.” We [i.e., Allāh] decreed that she is of those who remain behind
إِلَّا ٱمْرَأَتَهُۥ قَدَّرْنَآ ۙ إِنَّهَا لَمِنَ ٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَ Illa imraatahu qaddarna innahalamina alghabireen — 🔊
Ayah 61
And when the messengers came to the family of Lot,
فَلَمَّا جَآءَ ءَالَ لُوطٍ ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ Falamma jaa ala lootinalmursaloon — 🔊
Ayah 62
He said, “Indeed, you are people unknown.”
قَالَ إِنَّكُمْ قَوْمٌ مُّنكَرُونَ Qala innakum qawmun munkaroon — 🔊
Ayah 63
They said, “But we have come to you with that about which they were disputing,
قَالُوا۟ بَلْ جِئْنَـٰكَ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ فِيهِ يَمْتَرُونَ Qaloo bal ji/naka bimakanoo feehi yamtaroon — 🔊
Ayah 64
And we have come to you with truth, and indeed, we are truthful.
وَأَتَيْنَـٰكَ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَإِنَّا لَصَـٰدِقُونَ Waataynaka bilhaqqiwa-inna lasadiqoon — 🔊
Ayah 65
So set out with your family during a portion of the night and follow behind them and let not anyone among you look back and continue on to where you are commanded.”
فَأَسْرِ بِأَهْلِكَ بِقِطْعٍ مِّنَ ٱلَّيْلِ وَٱتَّبِعْ أَدْبَـٰرَهُمْ وَلَا يَلْتَفِتْ مِنكُمْ أَحَدٌ وَٱمْضُوا۟ حَيْثُ تُؤْمَرُونَ Faasri bi-ahlika biqitAAin minaallayli wattabiAA adbarahum wala yaltafitminkum ahadun wamdoo haythutu/maroon — 🔊
Ayah 66
And We conveyed to him [the decree] of that matter: that those [sinners] would be eliminated by early morning.
وَقَضَيْنَآ إِلَيْهِ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْأَمْرَ أَنَّ دَابِرَ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ مَقْطُوعٌ مُّصْبِحِينَ Waqadayna ilayhi thalikaal-amra anna dabira haola-i maqtooAAunmusbiheen — 🔊
Ayah 67
And the people of the city came rejoicing
وَجَآءَ أَهْلُ ٱلْمَدِينَةِ يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ Wajaa ahlu almadeenati yastabshiroon — 🔊
Ayah 68
[Lot] said, “Indeed, these are my guests, so do not shame me.
قَالَ إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ ضَيْفِى فَلَا تَفْضَحُونِ Qala inna haola-i dayfeefala tafdahoon — 🔊
Ayah 69
And fear Allāh and do not disgrace me.”
وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَلَا تُخْزُونِ Wattaqoo Allaha walatukhzoon — 🔊
Ayah 70
They said, “Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?”
قَالُوٓا۟ أَوَلَمْ نَنْهَكَ عَنِ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ Qaloo awa lam nanhaka AAani alAAalameen — 🔊
Ayah 71
[Lot] said, “These are my daughters - if you would be doers [of lawful marriage].”
قَالَ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ بَنَاتِىٓ إِن كُنتُمْ فَـٰعِلِينَ Qala haola-i banateein kuntum faAAileen — 🔊
Ayah 72
By your life, [O Muḥammad], indeed they were, in their intoxication, wandering blindly.
لَعَمْرُكَ إِنَّهُمْ لَفِى سَكْرَتِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ LaAAamruka innahum lafee sakratihimyaAAmahoona — 🔊
Ayah 73
So the shriek seized them at sunrise.
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ مُشْرِقِينَ Faakhathat-humu assayhatumushriqeen — 🔊
Ayah 74
And We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of hard clay.
فَجَعَلْنَا عَـٰلِيَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حِجَارَةً مِّن سِجِّيلٍ FajaAAalna AAaliyaha safilahawaamtarna AAalayhim hijaratan minsijjeel — 🔊
Ayah 75
Indeed in that are signs for those who discern.
إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَـٰتٍ لِّلْمُتَوَسِّمِينَ Inna fee thalika laayatinlilmutawassimeen — 🔊
Ayah 76
And indeed, they [i.e., those cities] are [situated] on an established road.
وَإِنَّهَا لَبِسَبِيلٍ مُّقِيمٍ Wa-innaha labisabeelin muqeem — 🔊
Ayah 77
Indeed in that is a sign for the believers.
إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ Inna fee thalika laayatanlilmu/mineen — 🔊
Ayah 78
And the companions of the thicket [i.e., the people of Madyan] were [also] wrongdoers,
وَإِن كَانَ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْأَيْكَةِ لَظَـٰلِمِينَ Wa-in kana as-habual-aykati lathalimeen — 🔊
Ayah 79
So We took retribution from them, and indeed, both [cities] are on a clear highway.
فَٱنتَقَمْنَا مِنْهُمْ وَإِنَّهُمَا لَبِإِمَامٍ مُّبِينٍ Fantaqamna minhum wa-innahumalabi-imamin mubeen — 🔊
Ayah 80
And certainly did the companions of al-Ḥijr [i.e., the Thamūd] deny the messengers.
وَلَقَدْ كَذَّبَ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْحِجْرِ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ Walaqad kaththaba as-habualhijri almursaleen — 🔊
Ayah 81
And We gave them Our signs, but from them they were turning away.
وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمْ ءَايَـٰتِنَا فَكَانُوا۟ عَنْهَا مُعْرِضِينَ Waataynahum ayatinafakanoo AAanha muAArideen — 🔊
Ayah 82
And they used to carve from the mountains, houses, feeling secure.
وَكَانُوا۟ يَنْحِتُونَ مِنَ ٱلْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا ءَامِنِينَ Wakanoo yanhitoona mina aljibalibuyootan amineen — 🔊
Ayah 83
But the shriek seized them at early morning,
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ مُصْبِحِينَ Faakhathat-humu assayhatumusbiheen — 🔊
Ayah 84
So nothing availed them [from] what they used to earn.
فَمَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ Fama aghna AAanhum ma kanooyaksiboon — 🔊
Ayah 85
And We have not created the heavens and earth and that between them except in truth. And indeed, the Hour is coming; so forgive with gracious forgiveness.
وَمَا خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَآ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ ۗ وَإِنَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ لَـَٔاتِيَةٌ ۖ فَٱصْفَحِ ٱلصَّفْحَ ٱلْجَمِيلَ Wama khalaqna assamawatiwal-arda wama baynahuma illabilhaqqi wa-inna assaAAata laatiyatunfasfahi assafhaaljameel — 🔊
Ayah 86
Indeed, your Lord - He is the Knowing Creator.
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ ٱلْخَلَّـٰقُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ Inna rabbaka huwa alkhallaqualAAaleem — 🔊
Ayah 87
And We have certainly given you, [O Muḥammad], seven of the often repeated [verses]1 and the great Qur’ān.
وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَـٰكَ سَبْعًا مِّنَ ٱلْمَثَانِى وَٱلْقُرْءَانَ ٱلْعَظِيمَ Walaqad ataynaka sabAAan minaalmathanee walqur-ana alAAatheem — 🔊
Ayah 88
Do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to [certain] categories of them [i.e., the disbelievers], and do not grieve over them. And lower your wing [i.e., show kindness] to the believers.
لَا تَمُدَّنَّ عَيْنَيْكَ إِلَىٰ مَا مَتَّعْنَا بِهِۦٓ أَزْوَٰجًا مِّنْهُمْ وَلَا تَحْزَنْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَٱخْفِضْ جَنَاحَكَ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ La tamuddanna AAaynayka ila mamattaAAna bihi azwajan minhum wala tahzanAAalayhim wakhfid janahaka lilmu/mineen — 🔊
Ayah 89
And say, “Indeed, I am the clear warner” -
وَقُلْ إِنِّىٓ أَنَا ٱلنَّذِيرُ ٱلْمُبِينُ Waqul innee ana annatheerualmubeen — 🔊
Ayah 90
Just as We had revealed [scriptures] to the separators1
كَمَآ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَى ٱلْمُقْتَسِمِينَ Kama anzalna AAalaalmuqtasimeen — 🔊
Ayah 91
Who have made the Qur’ān into portions
ٱلَّذِينَ جَعَلُوا۟ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ عِضِينَ Allatheena jaAAaloo alqur-anaAAideen — 🔊
Ayah 92
So by your Lord, We will surely question them all
فَوَرَبِّكَ لَنَسْـَٔلَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ Fawarabbika lanas-alannahum ajmaAAeen — 🔊
Ayah 93
About what they used to do.
عَمَّا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ AAamma kanoo yaAAmaloon — 🔊
Ayah 94
Then declare what you are commanded and turn away from the polytheists
فَٱصْدَعْ بِمَا تُؤْمَرُ وَأَعْرِضْ عَنِ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ FasdaAA bima tu/maruwaaAArid AAani almushrikeen — 🔊
Ayah 95
Indeed, We are sufficient for you against the mockers
إِنَّا كَفَيْنَـٰكَ ٱلْمُسْتَهْزِءِينَ Inna kafaynaka almustahzi-een — 🔊
Ayah 96
Who make [equal] with Allāh another deity. But they are going to know.
ٱلَّذِينَ يَجْعَلُونَ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ ۚ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ Allatheena yajAAaloona maAAa Allahiilahan akhara fasawfa yaAAlamoon — 🔊
Ayah 97
And We already know that your breast is constrained by what they say.
وَلَقَدْ نَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ يَضِيقُ صَدْرُكَ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ Walaqad naAAlamu annaka yadeequ sadrukabima yaqooloon — 🔊
Ayah 98
So exalt [Allāh] with praise of your Lord and be of those who prostrate [to Him].
فَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ وَكُن مِّنَ ٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَ Fasabbih bihamdi rabbika wakunmina assajideen — 🔊
Ayah 99
And worship your Lord until there comes to you the certainty [i.e., death].
وَٱعْبُدْ رَبَّكَ حَتَّىٰ يَأْتِيَكَ ٱلْيَقِينُ WaAAbud rabbaka hattaya/tiyaka alyaqeen — 🔊
